KKR Founders Join Pitchwise Group in Buying 42% of Valencia
Valencia CF has found new partners at the top of the club. On 23 October, the Spanish side announced that Pitchwise Holdings, an investment group backed by KKR co-founders Henry Kravis and George Roberts, will acquire a 42 percent stake in a deal that values the club at €1.25 billion, including debt.
The agreement also brings €100 million of fresh capital into the club. It is a major ownership move for one of Spain's best known clubs, and it lands as Valencia prepares for the biggest project in its modern history, the move to the Nou Mestalla.
Who is buying in
Pitchwise Holdings is a consortium of family offices and long term institutional investors led by sports executives Ann Rodriguez and Corey Woolfolk. Reuters, in a report carried by CNA, said the shares are being bought from majority owner Meriton Holdings. Spanish outlet Libertad Digital identified Meriton as the company of Singapore businessman Peter Lim and noted that the sale still needs approval from Spain's sports council, the CSD.
The backers carry heavyweight names. Kravis and Roberts are the co-founders and co-executive chairmen of KKR, the global investment firm. Penner Sports Group, the Denver based sports and entertainment holding company founded by Greg and Carrie Penner, is also part of the group. Its holdings include the NFL's Denver Broncos and a minority stake in Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies, according to the club.
Rodriguez and Woolfolk will join Valencia president Kiat Lim in a new ownership group. Kiat Lim said Pitchwise was selected from several interested parties because of its long term investment expertise and sports acumen.
Meriton stays in control
This is not a full sale. Meriton will keep a majority stake, and Kiat Lim remains president. The deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
That structure matters. It allows the current owners to bring in new money and experienced partners without handing over the club outright. Supporters will watch closely to see how much influence the new minority partners have, especially when it comes to spending and long term planning.
The Nou Mestalla factor
The new ownership group will oversee the club's move to the Nou Mestalla, which Valencia described as its most significant milestone in 100 years. The new stadium is expected to hold more than 70,000 fans, a major step up from the 49,000 seat Mestalla.
Valencia said the €1.25 billion valuation reflects its men's and women's teams, the current Mestalla stadium and the Nou Mestalla project. A larger, modern venue opens the door to higher matchday revenue, premium seating and year round events, all areas where American investors have deep experience.
That is a large part of the appeal. A club with a famous name, a passionate fan base and a new stadium on the horizon offers clear room for commercial growth.
Why American money keeps arriving
The deal fits a wider trend. Wealthy families and institutional investors are increasingly seeking exposure to sports franchises, drawn by global audiences, media rights and commercial growth potential, as the Reuters report noted.
European football has become a favorite destination for that capital. Clubs offer international brands at valuations that can look modest next to major American franchises. Investors with experience in the NFL, NBA and MLB often believe they can apply lessons from stadium operations, sponsorship and media to clubs in Spain, England, Italy and France.
The Penner family's involvement adds a direct link to American league ownership, while the KKR founders bring decades of investment experience at the highest level of global finance.
What comes next for Valencia
For now, the immediate questions are practical. Fans will want to see how the €100 million is used, whether it strengthens the squad, supports the stadium project or eases the club's finances. Regulators must also sign off before the deal closes.
The bigger story is about the future. Valencia is betting that new partners, fresh capital and a new home can help a historic club compete again at the level its supporters expect. Legend Magazine will keep following the deal as it moves toward completion.
