San Diego, CA: While many families gather on Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday, one family in San Diego is mourning the loss of their 12-year-old son after tragedy struck on a day they thought would bring the family closer together.

On the evening of November 25th, the Gaspar Gallegos Family gathered together in their backyard for some family time. That's when the unexpected happened. A stray bullet came through the family backyard fence struck 12-year-old Angel Gallegos in the back.

Family members immediately rushed to Angel's aid in an attempt to stabilize him until paramedics arrived.

He was rushed to UCSD Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries early Friday morning.

The GoFundMe page set up for his funeral expenses describes him as 'a wonderful older brother to Gabriel and sister Brianna and was loved by all that knew him.'

This is the second child lost by this family, having lost their 1st born some 14 years earlier.

The family is still waiting to hear from detectives to see if any arrests were made.

When asked what answers the family is seeking right now, his aunt Maria Gaspar-Casillas simply replied, "Of course, WHY?"
