HBO has officially announced that the critically acclaimed drama The Last of Us will return for a third season, premiering in 2027. Based on the popular video game franchise by Naughty Dog, the series continues to explore post-pandemic survival, human resilience, and emotional depth through its protagonists Joel and Ellie.
Though the storyline for Season 3 remains under wraps, early hints suggest it will delve into new characters and darker emotional themes. Co-creator Neil Druckmann will step back from the show’s development to refocus on his work at Naughty Dog, leaving writer Craig Mazin to helm the season solo.
Season 2 is currently in post-production and expected to debut in 2026. HBO insiders say the final season may be split into multiple parts, depending on audience demand and narrative pacing.
